ESO3: You make me feel that. Adjectives to describe personality.

Hi crew! I propose you to COMPLETE this mission: listen to the song, follow the lyrics and fill in the gaps. Then, watch the videoclip: you will read a lot of cool words used in real English by young people to describe personality, using slang language (colloquialisms) and cyberlanguage (like in the SMS in mobile phones).
Can you compile these words and make a list?

My challenge is to produce a videoclip like the one you can see here!

Instructions:
1-Make groups
2-Decide what adjective describe you best (or the opposite, it will make it funnier!)
3-Some of your group will take a black and white picture of yourself in that attitude
4-Add the word using a photo/picture editing software (like in the videoclip)
5-Using MovieMaker let's add the song and our pictures: we've created our own videoclip! Groups 3rd A and 3rd B can work together in this single project.

NOTE: each one of you should have a different adjective (let's not repeat them OK?). Try to use an adjective that's opposite to what you are like normally, or just play out your role for the photo! You can use the clothes and complements that you consider, even make-up and hair style :)

EXTRA
We can print out the pictures and display them in the corridor. Be creative and have fun!

ESO1: Animals JClic + Describe your favourite animal!

Here you have some games to practise your vocabulary.
http://clic.xtec.cat/db/act_en.jsp?id=3579

Remember to hand in the description of your favourite animal and your corresponding animal for the ABC ZOO!

A dolphin belongs to the kingdom of animals, vertebrates, mammals. A dolphin lives in water. There are salt-type and fresh-type dolphins. Some kinds of salt-types are spinners, bottle-nosed, and common. Some types of fresh-types are Irrawaddy, amazon, Ganges. There is 50+ species of dolphins and more to discover. Recent studies say that dolphins are just as smart as people if not more, and should be called non-human-people. They breath through blowholes not their mouths, like people. Dolphins eat fish, octopus, squid, crap, and other seafood. The most popular kind of dolphin for parks is the bottle-nosed dolphin. If you want to buy a dolphin, you better start saving your money! Dolphins are cetaceans (see-tay-shuns). Dolphins live in pods or schools and if a lot of dolphins get together its a herd. Baby dolphins are called calfs. Porpoises are similar but are not the same! Look at the differences! (*porpoise= marsopa).

ESO1: Animal description

Here is an elaborated example of your project for this unit:

  • Choose your favourite animal and draw it (colour it in too!) x1
  • Indicate its parts (with arrows) x1
  • Describe it: size, colour... what is it like? x2
  • Food: vegetarian, carnivore... what does it eat? x2
  • Habitat: where does it live? x2
  • Social organization: who does it live with? x2

You can add other curiosities and say why you like it. The number next to each item is the marks worth each section (x1  mark, x2 marks). Do your best! Some of them will be exhibited in the corridor :)

ESO4 WRITING: Describing a celebrity

Sample of a composition: describing a celebrity. In red you can find important connectors you can use (to improve fluency). In blue, expressions to organize the paragraphs. In green, frequency adverbs.

MY FAVOURTIE CELEBRITY, by Humberto Burcet

My favourite singer is Andrea Corr. She is 30 years old and she is from Ireland. She sings in a group called The Corrs.
She has got dark hair and brown eyes and a beautiful smile. She usually dresses very casual, but in concerts she often wears trendy clothes. She does not have any piercings or tattoos. However she wears a ring and a bracelet in the picture.

•           She is extrovert and friendly. In addition, she has got a good sense of humour. On the other hand, she has a wonderful voice. However, she is very bossy sometimes
•          One thing she loves is singing in concerts. On the other hand, she enjoys playing the tin whistle, a traditional Irish instrument. Nevertheless, she hates long journeys: she is afraid of planes so she normally travels by car.
•          In conclusion, she is a great singer and I think that both her appearance and her personality are always beautiful

ESO4: Unit 1: The Right Image. Describe a celebrity!

Here you have the Powerpoint presentation for Unit 2. I'm also pasting the structure and a sample of the composition you have to write (don't forget to include a picture of the celebrity you are describing!). The assessment will be based on the following criteria:

  • 25% Fluency (connectors: and, but, however, on the other hand, although, in addition, both... and...)
  • 25% Accuracy (agreement, spelling, word order, etc..)
  • 25% Vocabulary (rich vocabulary, synonyms, antonyms, phrasal verbs, false friends)
  • 25% Originality (get good ideas and go beyond the standard text; include a photo!)
Remember to hand in your composition ON TIME! Monday, November 21st.
