ESO1: HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Spooky spooky! It's Halloween time! And we are going to devote one session to talk about scary stories, learn about Halloween origins and traditions and even make our own Jack-o'-lantern masks and monsters to decorate our class!

1. SONG. Here we have a song to learn about the Jack-o'-lantern face.Look at the list:

HAIR, EYES, NOSE, MOUTH, EARS.

a) What parts of the face do appear?
b) What parts are missing?

Lyrics

Pumpkin Pumpkin
Let's give you some eyes
Pumpkin Pumpkin
Let's give you a nose
Pumpkin Pumpkin
Let's give you a scary smile
And now you're a Jack O Lantern

The ghosts and the ghouls and the witches
They will run a mile
When they see my scary smile

Put me in the window
And I'll chase the night away
Because I am a Jack O Lantern
I am a Jack O Lantern
I am a Jack O Lantern

2. VOCABULARY: In the clip they mention three of the following words... which ones? What do the other words mean? 2. Draw a half of the Jack-o'-lantern with the pencil. The middle of the pumpkin must be on the right!
3. Carefully, cut out the nose, the eye, and the mouth. Finally, cut the exterior shape.
Unfold it and... you've got your own Jack-o'-lantern mask!
You are ready to ask for candies after saying "Trick or treat"! ^_^

Imagine....
<<< What is this? A h- - - - - - house.
<<< Who does live in it?
<<< Where is it?

ESO1: Carnival time, animal masks!

Carnival time! Let's combine our present topic with this festivity making animal masks!

Can you identify the animals represented in these masks?

Here you have some of the many activity pages with ideas for our party:
http://www.activityvillage.co.uk/animal_masks_to_print.htm
http://www.angelfire.com/dc/childsplay/masks.htm
http://www.firstpalette.com/Craft_themes/Animals/animalmasks/animalmask.html

Materials
§  A4 or Letter size card stock
§  Crayons, paint, or any coloring material
§  Scissors
§  Hole punch
§  Elastic string
§  Scotch tape
§  Craft stick (optional)
Steps
Pick the animal mask that you like and print it out on A4 or Letter size card stock:
·         Bunny Mask
·         Lion Mask
·         Monkey Mask
·         Tiger Mask

*You can print out the mask on regular paper but you will need to glue the mask onto card board to make it stiffer.
1. Color or paint the animal using your favorite coloring material. If you chose to print out a colored animal mask, skip this step.
2. Cut out the mask. Ask an adult to help you cut out the eye holes.
3. Notice the pair of little circles on each side of the mask? These are the spots where you need to punch holes for attaching the string. Paper masks normally tear around these holes after a few uses. To reinforce these spots, put scotch tape over the marked holes and fold the tape towards the back of the mask.
4. Punch holes on the pair of marked circles and tie the ends of an elastic string on each hole.
5. Try on your animal mask. It should fit snugly but not too tight. Adjust the length of the string if necessary.

ESO3 & ESO4_A great voice flies away: 'I will always love you' by Whitney Houston

Unforntunately, Whitney Houston, so-called 'The Voice', passed away a few days ago, just before some important music awards ceremony. Yesterday it was Valentine's day so we can listen to one of her most famous songs, I Will Always Love You to pay homage to this great singer.

by Whitney Houston
If I should stay,
I would only be in your .

But I know
I'll think of  every step of the way.

And I
Will always love you,
Will always love you.

You, my darling you.
Bittersweet ,
That is all I'm taking with me.
So .
Please, don't cry,
We both know I'm not what you
You .

And I
Will always love you,
Will always love you.

I hope life treats you .
And I hope you have all you've dreamed of.
And I wish you joy and .
But above all this,
I'm wishing you love.

And I will always love you,
I will always love you,
You, darling, I love you.

ESO1: Xmas decorations.

Today I'm not in school-I'm with my 4th ESO students in Barcelona discovering the medieval walls and walking to the Christmas market. Yesterday, we sang a very nice carol, Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer. Congratulations!: you sing very well and it was really fun! :)

Today I propose you two activities:
1- Write a Season's Greetings postcard. Fold a DINA 4, draw a Xmas/Winter element on the cover and your name on the back (one side of the paper). Inside (on the other side of the paper) write a message, for example:

SEASONS GREETINGS and a Happy New Year 2012!.
(Bones festes i bon any nou 2012!)

2- Decorate our class. Here you have some ideas. Use your color-pencils, scissors and glue and... be creative!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas! Here you have some songs and ideas to decorate your class in order to celebrate Xmas! Imma and I would like you to sing some Christmas carols for the radio/podcast of our school's web, so... let's sing!

All-
We Wish You A Merry Christmas
We Wish You A Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
And a Happy New Year.

Good tidings to you,
And all of your kin,jingle-bells
Good tidings for Christmas,
And a Happy New Year.

We all know that Santa's coming,
We all know that Santa's coming,
We all know that Santa's coming,
And soon will be here.

Good tidings to you,
And all of your kin,
Good tidings for Christmas,
And a Happy New Year.

We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a Merry Christmas,
And a Happy New Year.

1st ESO: Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer
http://xmasfun.com/Lyrics.asp?ID=49

You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen,
Comet and Cupid and Donder and Blitzen.,

But do you recall
The most famous reindeer of all?

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Had a very shiny nose,
And if you ever saw it,
You could even say it glows.

All of the other reindeer
Used to laugh and call him names;
They never let poor Rudolph
Join in any reindeer games.

Then one foggy Christmas Eve,
Santa came to say:
Rudolph with your nose so bright,
Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"

Then how the reindeer loved him
As they shouted out with glee,
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,
You'll go down in history."

2nd ESO: Jingle Bells

Dashing through the snow
On a one-horse open sleigh
Over the fields we go
Laughing all the way;
Bells on bob-tail ring
making spirits bright
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight
Jingle bells
jingle bells
jingle all the way!
O what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh

A day or two ago
I thought I'd take a ride
And soon Miss Fanny Bright
Was seated by my side;
The horse was lean and lank;
Misfortune seemed his lot;
He got into a drifted bank
And we
we got upsot
Jingle Bells
Jingle Bells
Jingle all the way!
What fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh

A day or two ago
the story I must tell
I went out on the snow
And on my back I fell;
A gent was riding by
In a one-horse open sleigh
He laughed as there
I sprawling lie
But quickly drove away
Jingle Bells
Jingle Bells
Jingle all the way!
What fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh

Now the ground is white
Go it while you're young
Take the girls tonight
And sing this sleighing song;
Just get a bob-tailed bay
two-forty as his speed
Hitch him to an open sleigh
And crack! you'll take the lead
Jingle Bells
Jingle Bells
Jingle all the way!
What fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh
