Juan Sebastián Elcano was a Spanish navigator, ship-owner and explorer of Basque origin. He was born in Getaria, part of the Crown of Castile, he completed the first circumnavigation of the Earth in the ship Victoria on the Magellan expedition to the Spice Islands. He received recognition for his achievement by Charles V of Spain with a coat of arms bearing a globe and the Latin motto Primus circumdedisti me (You were the first to circumnavigate me).
In Spain, historians wrote the first biographies about him in the second half of the 19th century, after three centuries of neglect.
Following his success, the king entrusted him with another large expedition to the Spice Islands, headed by the nobleman García Jofre de Loaisa, which was not completed. Elcano died in the Pacific Ocean during this venture.
HISPANIC DAY: INTERLINGUISTIC MEDIATION. FIRST CIRCUMNAVIGATION
This year we have taken several actions to celebrate the European Day of Languages 22-23:
1st ESO: Map of Europe and languages
Atención Educativa: different linguistic apples on how to say Hi Bye Please and Thanks in different languages
Teams divided into researchers and creators looking for several words in different languages, also beyond the European continent, as many people from abroad bring their languages to enrich the linguistic panorama
2nd ESO: stickers with greetings in several languages and spread among the school
3rd ESO - Digital Magazine: press accreditaions in several languages and coverage of the event
ALL: The tree of the linguistic families, 50 curious facts about languages and several quizzes about alphabets of the world.
We have also collaborated with the Spanish Department: they have translated several slogans into the languages present in our school-and we both have created the exhibition that can be visited at the hall of the secondary school.
We want to promote multilingualism, mutual respect and understanding and the appreciation of other languages and cultures.

I hope you work hard and get the brightest marks in your Ebau exams, get ready for our last test on unit 6 (remember content from all the course can also appear despite the focus would be on vocabulary and grammar of this last unit). SPEAKING.Listen to a travel podcast of your choice. Then, prepare and record an audio giving tips to young people about a destination of your choice. As you will see, a podcast must include some music, it might include sound effects and it is important to modulate the rhythm, pauses, and intonation. I will attach 2 examples from last year students to have an idea: Selena's did it individually, Dani and Luis did in couple. Duration: from 1 to 5 minutes. You can work in pairs (virtually though!... given our current situation).
